About Thai Massage

นวดแผนโบราณ (nuààt phǎǎen boh raan)

Traditional Thai massage has been a part of Thai traditional medicine for more than 2500 years. It is thought to have its origins in the Ayurvedic (roughly translated as “life knowledge”) traditions of India, and has been developed by Thais through the centuries. By the mid-13th century, the skills and knowledge of Traditional Thai massage had been documented. Since then, the kings of Thailand have preserved and expanded the body of knowledge about this healing art, recognising that it provides a foundation of good health. Its holistic approach to body, mind and spirit leaves the recipient rejuvenated, refreshed and revitalised.

Traditional Thai massage therapists use their hands, arms, elbows, knees and feet, applying pressure and stretching the body to improve its freedom of movement and energy. The strength of the massage is adjusted to suit the needs of the person receiving the massage.
